Tax return

I really hate having to complete a tax return every year. It seems that no matter how hard I try, I always end up owing the government money.

I don’t mind paying the tax, it’s the mad hunt through the house for bank statements and p60’s that I hate.

Without giving it much thought, would it not be easier just to tax payments recieved into bank accounts? Surely that would catch the majority of income and since the banks would be doing the hard work, we’d maybe need less tax inspectors.
